Year 10 visit HMS Caroline

14th Jun 2016

Our Year 10s from Dunfane Campus took part in a tour of HMS Caroline, the last surviving ship from the Battle of Jutland.  The ship is docked in Belfast and is now a museum where students can view the historic spaces such as: senior officers cabin, captain’s cabin, mess area and ships office.  There were plenty of interactive areas including the signal school, engine room and torpedo school.  Pupils also took part in an art workshop making prints using historical objects from the ship.

Some interesting facts:  Other interesting residents on the ship:  2 cats, a black one named Tom and a white one named Puff as well as a rabbit named Blucher!

One of the pastimes on the ship was playing football.

Most of Caroline’s work involved patrolling the North Sea in dreadful weather.
